Grant comment: output power listed is ERP. Baofeng's UV-5G (UV-5X) page says Baofeng renamed the GMRS UV-5X to UV-5G and "re-certified the FCC ID as 2AN62-UV5G." A separate Baofeng grant, 2AJGM-UV5G (2022, receive bands added 2024), also exists and lists 3.23–3.93 W ERP. We can't tell from the documents which ID a given unit carries, so read the label. Maker's claims vs FCC filing

Maker says

"5W GMRS Radio" source

FCC filing shows

4.1 W ERP (462 main), 3.96 W ERP (467 main) grant

Our read

Not directly comparable: ERP includes the stock antenna, while a maker's 5 W is transmitter output. The UV-5G is the Part 95E version; the ham UV-5R isn't certified for GMRS.

"Not listed" means this model isn't on the NWS list of radios approved for the NOAA Weather Radio All Hazards logo. It doesn't mean the radio can't receive weather broadcasts. The maker pages we checked don't say whether alerts use SAME county codes. See the weather radio guide.

What we haven't checked

  • Real-world range, audio quality and battery life (not measured; see how we work).
